It began with a friend. She loved rings and necklaces, yet always found herself taking off her bangles. They never quite fit, and never felt entirely comfortable. That simple frustration became a question: what would a bangle feel like if it were truly made for the wrist? Not sized to a chart, but made to fit the wrist. That question became the beginning of KATSUYOSHI SHIMADA. Every wrist has its own contours, proportions, and way of moving. Careful observation led to THE WRIST RESEARCH METHOD—a patented approach to how a bangle rests on and moves with the body.

Each bangle is designed around the individual wrist and refined to the millimetre, while remaining first and foremost a piece of jewellery. It is designed to move naturally with the wrist and feel comfortable to wear. Each piece is shaped and finished by hand in Japan.

A researcher of the wrist. Katsuyoshi Shimada began his career as a fashion designer and has worked in Japanese design and craftsmanship for over twenty-five years. An encounter with antique jewellery led him to jewellery-making, and to a lasting study of the wrist’s contours and movement—culminating in his patented design method. His work has been featured in FIGARO japon, ELLE, ELLE mariage, and UOMO.
