The Patented Method

Patented in Japan

KATSUYOSHI SHIMADA holds Japanese Patent No. 7703264 for THE WRIST RESEARCH METHOD—an original method for designing the inner curve of a bangle.

  • Bangle Inner Curve Design Method

  • View the patent record
  • Developed through years of observing differences in wrist anatomy, proportion and movement, the method allows each bangle to be shaped around the individual rather than a standard oval. The exterior remains quiet and sculptural while the inner curve is refined in precise increments for the wearer.

Patented in Japan under Patent No. 7703264. Patent applications have also been filed in Europe.

How the Method Works

THE WRIST RESEARCH METHOD is a patented method for designing the inner curve of a bangle. Observations made during a Wrist Assessment guide the shaping of its curve, opening and inside circumference for each wearer.

  • Observe the Wrist

  • During a Wrist Assessment, the contours, thickness and movement of the wrist are closely observed. These subtle differences inform the proportions of each bangle.

  • Shape the Inner Curve

  • Japanese Patent No. 7703264
  • The value of the method is felt in daily wear: a bangle shaped with careful attention to the wearer’s contours and preferred balance. Individually crafted in Japan, each piece brings together sculptural form and a considered fit.

Each piece is a work of jewellery, not a medical device. Fit is individual and cannot be universally guaranteed.
